Registration:  All individuals attending the meeting, including presenters in contributing paper, poster, and symposia sessions, are required to register for the meeting.  The pre-registration deadline is April 10, 2008. However, the deadline for registration for those presenting papers or posters is March 24, 2008.  See the Meeting Registration Page for registration form, fee schedule, and general information.  NOTE: I will accept abstracts through March 24, 2008.

Contributed Papers and Posters:  Professionals and students are welcome to submit abstracts for oral or poster presentation.  Abstracts are required for all presentations and must be in the format described on the Abstract Forms pageAbstracts of presented papers will be published in the August issue of the Bulletin of the Southern California Academy of Sciences.

Symposia:  The Academy invites members to organize and lead a symposium that is of regional interest to scientists.  Individuals interested in organizing a symposium for the 2007 meeting and anyone desiring information on planned 2008  symposia should contact the Symposia Chair, Judith Diono Lemus (jdlemus@usc.edu).  For a list of currently planned symposia, see the Planned Symposia page.

 Awards: College students who elect to participate are eligible for best paper or poster awards from the Academy in several categories (see registration form).  Students are also eligible for best paper or poster awards from the American Institute of Fishery Research Biologists (AIFRB) in the broad category of fishery research. A paper by any combination of student and professional co-authors will be considered eligible if it represents work done principally by the student(s).  In the case of an award to a co-authored paper, the monetary award and a one-year membership to the Academy will be made to the first author only.

Junior Academy:  High school students who are conducting research under the Research Training Program of SCAS or at a southern California university or scientific organization will present their papers at sessions scheduled on Saturday, June 2nd, and professional members of the Academy are encouraged to attend.  High school students submitting papers through the Junior Academy must have prior approval by a teacher/mentor and should contact Gloria Takahashi (562 266 5093), myopick@aol.com).  Awards to these students include a one-year honorary membership with the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
